Marilyn Allen – Commodore
Hi Salty Doggers and Happy Holidays. I want to introduce myself as your incoming Commodore, welcome our new board and tell you a few of the things I hope we can accomplish next year. While not an original member I’ve been in the club almost since its inception and have served as Commodore 4 times along with many other board positions. I bring knowledge of what’s worked and not worked in the past plus a willingness to try new ideas, locations, and events. I especially welcome the new members to the board and look forward to your input and ideas to “shake things up a bit”.
Welcome to Q Sumner*- Vice Commodore, Mel Steiner-Treasurer, Neisha Atchley*- Secretary, Diana Bliss-On the Water, Cindie Sandlin-Newsletter, Lianne Cattelino*- Membership, Jeremy Frett-Webmaster and Mychele Smith*-Dry Land. (* indicates new board member).
Our VC has already located a new CENTRALLY LOCATED place for our meetings starting in January and it offers an early evening Happy Hour and great food. Broadway and Ellsworth are the N, S, E and W dividing lines for Denver Metro and this is very close to that intersection with easy access from I 25. It is Reiver’s Bar and Grill 1085 S. Gaylord Street, Denver, Colorado 80209
For 2024 I’d like to focus on the following: RECRUITING: We need new members, especially boat owners! One idea is to develop relationships with the other local sailing clubs and market the social side of sailing to their members. Another is to continue to promote active membership of the Why Buy club by offering a financial incentive to them as we did last year. SOCIAL MEDIA is free and a wonderful way to market ourselves. I’d love to see an increased presence on Facebook, Instagram and possibly X WITH HELP FROM OUR MEMBERS. An empty Facebook page doesn’t help us – posts from members having fun DOES. I use social media a lot in my business, and I know it works!
MEET UP: In the past it brought us new members. We need to tweak this a bit but it’s a great possibility for diversifying and growing our membership.
MEMBER INPUT: Please email me with your ideas! Where would you like to sail? What do you like/don’t like? Ideas for events? We can be better if each member contributes just a little, whether in time, talent, or suggestions. Your incoming Commodore, Marilyn Allen.
Vice Commodore – Q Summer
We have a new meeting space! The Salty Dogs will welcome 2024 with a new spot in Denver, centrally located with a nice big menu (with booze). We’ll meet on January 11, 18:00, at Reiver’s Bar and Grill 1085 S. Gaylord Street, Denver, Colorado 80209 (https://reiversbarandgrill.com/), in the lovely backroom. Their happy hour ends at 18:00 so show up early for some HH revelry! Note that there is no parking lot so it’s street parking, and you might have to find a spot around the corner

Salty Dog Sailing Club Details
The Salty Dog Sailing Club, Inc. is a Colorado nonprofit organization composed of couples and singles interested in sailing and socializing with others who share their love for the sport. Boat owners and non-owners are welcome!
The Club plans about a dozen sails each season, including day and weekend sails at nearby lakes. Special three-day holiday trips often include Lake Granby or Pueblo Reservoir in Colorado, Lake McConaughy in Nebraska, or Glendo Reservoir in Wyoming.
Salty Dog members have also organized charter sails in the Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Greece, and France. Aside from sailing, we have a variety of fun dry land activities throughout the year.
Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month, except for November, and December when there are banquets and special parties. Beginning in May, regular club meetings resume at the Chatfield Marina. Rendezvous at the Seagull (Chatfield Marina) Restaurant around 17:30 – 18:00 for socializing with other members and to order dinner. A brief meeting will follow with the goal of being on the water by 19:00.
