Season’s Greetings and Happy New Year 2022!!
I hope you caught our last month’s Christmas Party!! It was one of the best in recent years!! Andrea out did herself with the games, wall quiz, and gift exchange. It was a lot of fun and laughs. Check out her article and pictures in this newsletter.
Our January meeting will be Thursday, January 13th at 6 PM at Casa Del Sol. Hopefully we will be able to continue meeting in person at the restaurant. That being said and to protect everyone, our Covid protocol is to wear a mask even if you are vaccinated and especially if you are not (need to wear it all the time and keep your distance). If anyone becomes infected, please call me and I will let everyone at the meeting know. Enough said. I’m excited to be working again with some old and some new members of the board and I’m looking forward to a new and exciting sailing season 2022. Also coming up the board would like suggestions for the Landlubbers program about who should be recognized and why. Let me know what you think!
Mark, as vice commodore, has been lining up exciting programs for the coming winter months. For January, Shane will be introducing the new sailing schedule for 2022. This is the time to speak up and volunteer as a coordinator. We will be having coordinator training this year to help you know the ropes of putting on a successful sailing day/weekend. The number of sails will be dependent on how many coordinators we get, so help the club out by volunteering a little time and meet new people! Also, Chris will be presenting his BVI trip video at the January meeting.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the:
January 13th member meeting at 6 PM
Casa Del Sol restaurant at 608 Garrison St, Lakewood
Ellie Watson – Membership
Membership Report – 12/2021
As we ended the 2021 season, we have about a dozen or so renewals for next year already on the books. So please get your renewals in soon so we can plan the new sailing season and pay our insurance!
You can pay online and copy the membership form from website, then send it into Ellie Watson. Do that soon at our On-Line Payment link: https://www.saltydog.org/shop/
The club requires every member to complete both sides of an application each year. If you prefer, you can send a check along with your membership application directly to Ellie. Her address is listed on the form. It is important to pay your membership dues early like Dec-Jan, so the club has money to make reservations early for summer weekend sails and pay our club insurance!! Have any questions about membership, email – membership@saltydog.org
Andrea Lewis – Dry Land Coordinator
Holiday Party – Thursday 12/9/21
This year’s party was, thankfully in person, and we made sure to celebrate with a bang…
As usual, there was a number of Christmas related questions around the room for people to mill around and socialize before dinner – the most contentious question being the name of the turkeys “beard” … Waddle or Wattle…. We did accept both answers …..
After a lovely dinner – we went onto minute-to-win-it games based off the tv program years ago … Who would have thought you would see your fellow sailors jumping around with a Kleenex box strapped around their waist trying to release ping pong balls? Or one sailor having toilet paper wrapped around them in mummy style … To end the evening we did the present exchange “rapid style” with only one steal per present.
Lots of fun (I think) was had by all!!
This was my last event as dry land coordinator and Neisha Atchley will be taking over – so you will all be in very good hands as I am sure she has plenty of great ideas for next year.
Cindie Sandlin – Newsletter
Tiffany has retired and we wish her well in her new sailing adventures. It’s a New Year and I’m looking forward to lending a hand with the “Dog Tales” newsletter. My goal is to do as good of a job as Tiffany has done on all of the previous newsletters. Should I come across any interesting sailing articles, trivia, jokes, stories, etc., I will put them in with the newsletter. If members would like to contribute or have something for the classified section, please let me know. Thanks!
Chris Betts presentation at the next meeting
During these cold, snowy winter days, have you ever gazed out your window and longed for:
– an adventure sailing in the Caribbean with its azure blue waters,
– nothing but the soothing sounds of the warm trade winds filling your sails,
– gentle ocean seas lapping at the bow, and
– imagining yourself a pirate plundering gold laden galleons of yesteryear?
If so, please join Chris Betts and Gloria Grenier for a video presentation on January 13th at 6:00pm of their BVI charter sailing experiences including a private beach lobster dinner, snorkeling / scuba dive excursions, dining and dancing to live bands and endless days of smooth sailing!
