Commodore’s Log – Diana Bliss
Commodore’s Log – Diana Bliss
The sailing season is nearing the end, so I hope you will be taking advantage of the several last sails of the season. Because the Casa Del Sol restaurant is closed and I can’t get a hold of the new owner, we will be meeting again at the Chatfield Marina picnic tables on the dock for our September member meeting on Thursday, Sept. 8th. We will be having a bar-B-que (club will provide hotdogs and buns) and potluck starts at 5:30 PM and then a short sail after the meeting. See Mark’s article in newsletter.
Since I don’t know when the Casa Del Sol restaurant will be re-opening, our club needs to find another place to meet for our member meetings, especially for the rest of the year! So, I’m asking everyone to help in the search. Please call any recreation center, church, or clubhouse in an apartment complex or golf course that you know. Find out if they charge for a room and how much. We should try to keep the place centrally located, like Littleton, Englewood, or Sheridan area. If you have any ideas, please let me or one of the board members know so we can check it out. Thanks for helping the club to continue!!
For the September meeting we have several sails opening for sign-ups. September is one of the best months for sailing when the temperatures are cooling down. The Labor Day sail is currently full so thanks for signing up early. The member meeting on Sept. 8th will have a sail afterwards, so please let Mark know about the bar-B-que/potluck. Shane will be taking sign-ups for the sailing after the meeting, so please sign up ahead of time. On Sept. 11th Cindie will be taking sign-ups the Sailgrass event with the CSYC club. This event will combine sailing, a shrimp dinner, and bluegrass music. Please see Cindie’s article for details. The last sail of our sailing season will be Friday October 7th. Talk to Shane if you’re interested.
Once again thanks go out to boat owners Zeke, Jim W., Cindie, Brooke and Larry Moreland, Mike C., Shane, and Marilyn who provided boats for August events. Special thanks to Ron V., a new coordinator, for taking on two August sails. The August meeting sail turned out very good as the weather cooled down and the winds came up, we had a great sail. The Scavenger Hunt sail turned out well with everyone having a good time and two boats tied for the winning prizes. Thanks to Ron and Cindie for their help.
Hope to see you all at the Sept. 8th member meeting at Chatfield Marina picnic tables for Bar-B-que and potluck at 5:30 PM. Please help with the meeting room search for the club to continue. I don’t really want to go back to doing zoom meetings!! Be sure to sign up early for the upcoming sails.
Smooth Sailing, Diana
