Commodore’s Log – Diana Bliss
Commodore’s Log – Diana Bliss
I can’t believe it’s already fall and the leaves are changing later this year. I just got back from Granby. The leaves were changing at 10,000 ft. and above. So, we are ending our 2022 Sailing season with one last sail on October 8th at Cherry Creek.
As our year goes on, this is not the end of activities. We still have elections of officers coming up in November 10th, the Christmas party in December 8th, and various Dry Land events throughout the winter months. In February, we have a Landblubbers event where we honor funny or unusual events that happened during the year to our members. If you can think of anything from this past sailing season worth noting, please let me or someone on the board know about it.
Our October 13th member meeting will be meeting at our “new place” called The Shack located at 151 W. Mineral Ave. #101. Littleton. Meeting starts at 6:00pm. It’s in the Safeway shopping center, corner of South Broadway and Mineral. Our program will feature Cliff Randall who will be talking about crewing on passage delivery of boats in coastal waters. It should be interesting since Cliff has had lots of experience delivering boats to many different places. Hope to see you there!
This is our official announcement for our Annual Meeting to elect Board Members for the 2023 sailing season. The date is November 10th at 6 PM. Listed below are the articles from our by-laws which describe each office position and their duties. Please look at this and see if you would fit into one of these positions. It’s a great way to give back to the club or if you are new member to get involved with the club and meet new people. I know I’ve talked to some of the members but let me know if you are interested in any of these positions. If you can’t make the annual meeting and would like to vote by absentee ballot, please contact me and I’ll send you one by email before the meeting. Absentee ballots are due back to me by Monday, November 7th. Any questions, please contact me by email or call 303-424-7841.

Dillon Sail Recap
As usual Lake Dillon in September provided good sailing conditions and mostly nice weather. You can’t beat the beautiful scenery and the challenging sailing conditions the lake has to offer. We had 16 members, and 3 guests attend the event. Zeke provided his Columbia 27, Jim & Ellie their Catalina 22 and a special thanks to Cliff who brought his Catalina 22. Shane and Mike were kind enough to arrange for Why Buy Boats. We really appreciate all those who made boats available for the outing.
Friday was another typical enjoyable sailing day on the lake. Nice to see all the boats out. We had our group dinner at Sabor Mazatlan and the selection of entrees was extensive and the food was good. We also had a couple of bumps in the road with them. First, they committed to one table which they didn’t provide and second, they insisted on a single bill which makes it very difficult for us.
On Saturday the weather was not as nice. There were three weather fronts coming from different directions in the afternoon. We were watching them closely and decided to head into the marina at about 3:30 or so. Our mistake was continuing to sail in when the prudent thing to do was take down the sails before the storm hit. Thankfully, we had four very experienced sailors on board and were able to douse the sails before any damage or other incidents occurred.
On Saturday night the Watson’s hosted a potluck at their condo, lots of great fellowship, drinks, and food. A good time was had by all.
Sunday was another nice day on the lake and a great way to end a wonderful weekend on Lake Dillon.
