Volume 42 Issue 11 – November 2023

Elections are fast approaching at the November 9th meeting at 18:00. It’s important to have a quorum for our elections to count. So far here is the slate of people who volunteered to continue and/or try an open position. These are all elected positions, so if you also want to run you can nominate yourself or a friend (with their agreement). Your vote matters so be there in person or vote by absentee ballot. So far here’s the ballot:

Commodore— Marilyn Allen

Vice Commodore—Q Sumner

Treasurer—Mel Steiner

Secretary— Neisha Achley

Membership— Liana Cattalino

On the Water— Diana Bliss

Newsletter— Cindie Sandlin

Webmaster— Jeremy Frett

Dry Land coordinator—?? Write in

This is our official announcement of our Annual Meeting on November 9th at 18:00 for the election of officers for the 2023 sailing season. The articles from our by-laws which describe each office position, and their duties, were posted in last month’s newsletter.  Please take a look at this and see if you would fit into one of these positions. It’s a great way to give back to the club or if new to get involved with the club and meet new people.

We will be meeting at the IHOP at 389 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood.

Continued…

I will be signing off as Interim Commodore after this newsletter, but I will ask for your vote to continue as the On the Water Coordinator for 2024. I will be in New Zealand in

November touring and visiting my daughter. This year has had a lot of ups and downs for the club but working as a team, I managed through it. I want to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to the board, the sailing coordinators, and all the boat owners for your support throughout this season.

New Vouchers

Because of the situation of so many people signing up for the new member sail on June 25th and a few sign-up issues, a number of vouchers will be sent to new Members who paid ahead of time and could not get on a boat. When you get this voucher by email from the treasurer, you will have to print it out and when you want to sign up for another sail (equally priced sail) and use that voucher, you will have to call the coordinator of that sail to get signed up. You can either send the coordinator a photo or scan of the voucher, or hand it to them at a meeting. But remember you are not signed up until the date you show proof of the voucher.  Handing out vouchers will not be the normal routine. Also, the voucher may NOT be applied toward any multi-day sail. You will need to sign up and pay online ahead of the deadline or early so you’ll get a spot. Since we have limited boats in the Denver area, and a lot of people who want to go sailing, it’s always been first come (date of payment) first served.

Salty Dog Cancellation policy

Here is our cancellation policy, as per our financial guidelines:

All persons attending a sailing event are expected to pay the full amount of the trip donation prior to departure. The cancellation deadline for multi-day events will be determined by venue. Participants cancelling prior to the deadline will be charged a 20% cancellation fee and refunded 80% of the deposit.  Cancellation after the deadline will lose their deposit, except in the case of hardship. Cancellations must be dated, in writing and received by coordinator either e-mail, text or letter prior to deadline. For day sails, no refund will be given for cancellations received less than 48 hours prior to the event.
