March 2022 Newsletter

March 4, 2022 By Larry Moreland

Volume 41 Issue 3 – March 2022

Commodore’s Log

Diana

Commodore’s Log – Diana Bliss

We have had a series of snow storms this last month that has triggered the longing for warmer days, or at least more snow in the mountains!  Last year at this time (end of February) I was in Hawaii!! Covid seems to be decreasing and masks are flying off. So, it looks like our March meeting will be in-person at the Cafe Del Sol restaurant. We had to postponed the Landlubbers Celebration until the March meeting. It will be more fun in person. If you’re new, our Landlubber’s Celebration is where the old board recognizes some of our members for funny, heroic, or unusual stories that have happened in the last year’s sailing season. So, put on your thinking caps and send your stories to me atcommodore@saltydog.org. I could use a few more good stories for recognition. It’s not too late!! Also besides having our awards we will be having a fun game put on by Neisha.

We have a full sailing schedule for next summer in this newsletter. What the club needs are volunteers to be sailing coordinators for each sail day or trip. We will be having a coordinators meeting in late April to train you with all the procedures and policies. As coordinator get to sail free that day!! It’s really not that hard for a day sail and we can also mentor you in the process, if you are new. So, let Shane know that you are interested in helping out the club.

If you are still interested in joining us this year for sailing, it’s not too late to re-join the club! That way you will be on the first roster posted in the beginning of the season. Membership forms are on the website and you can pay there too. Any questions, ask Ellie at membership@saltydog.org.

We had our first dry land event, where eight of us had lunch in Golden and some people with dogs went for a walk down by the creek. It was a warm sunny day. Thanks Neisha for putting this together. Look for March dryland event in this newsletter.

See you at the next meeting,

Diana

Thursday, March 10th at 6 PM

Cafe Del Sol , 608 Garrison St, Lakewood

Mark Graas – Vice Commodore

Landludders yearly awards will be presented during the March 10th Meeting. This should be entertaining and there might be a game with prizes.

Salty Dogs Membership – Ellie Watson

There is a total of 46 members in the SDSC.

Application forms and credit card payments can be found on www.saltydog.org.  The application needs to be filled out completely with signatures on BOTH pages.  Please do not write SAME on any of the lines, as I do not always have access to previous applications.

Once the application is complete with the necessary signatures and initials, there are 3 ways to get it back to me:

1. Send it to me by snail mail.  My home address is on page 1 of the application.
2. Scan it and text or email it to me at membership@saltydog.org
3. Take a picture of both pages and text or email it to me.

I hope to be hearing from lots of you soon!

Neisha Atchley – Dry Land Coordinator

Salty Dogs spring is creeping up with March rolling around. We have been invited to join the Colorado Sail & Yacht Club (CSYC) for an in person Wine and Cheese tastingevent on March 19th. The event will be a potluck, so we ask that everyone bring some wine and light hors d’oeuvres for folks to enjoy. Anything from pigs-in-a-blanket, to cheese, to veggies and your favorite wine is perfect!  CSYC will provide some basic non-alcoholic beverage options.  This will be an opportunity to meet more sailors, talk sailing and sign up as crew if anyone is interested in racing on Wednesday evenings, sign-up sheets will be available. CSYC swag available as well.

Please send your RSVP to Brooke at zbabbs@comcast.net

Where: RanchHouse 7676 S. Continental Divide Road Littleton, CO 80127

When: March 19th 6:30-9:00pm

Foods/Bev: Potluck. Please bring wine and light appetizers to share

2022 The Big Mac Trip will be June 23-26th, 2022

Again, this year we will be staying at the Admiral’s Cove Resort. I talked to the new manager, and they didn’t raise prices for the cabins and motel rooms, but did for the campsites. To get a jump start on reserving your lodging call Julie at 1-970-630-3156. Rooms will book fast so act soon.  She is working from her home, so please leave her a message and she will get back to you shortly. Mention that you are with the Salty Dog Sailing club and you will get a discount from the website prices.  The website is www.Admiralscoveresort.com if you would like to check the place out. Also, they have a new cancellation policy, better than past years, so ask about it. I have already got my campsite reservation and a cabin for the boat captains. I’m hopeful that I can get at least three boats for the trip. Cindie and Keith already have their campsite reserved and are bringing their boat.   I’ll be working on the price as soon as I get boats together. If you are a boat owner and are interested in bringing your boat, please call me or email me at commodore@saltydog.org.  Please let me know that you did get lodging reservations and would like to come on this trip, as it is first come, first serve!! Thanks Diana
