Volume 41 Issue 6 – June 2022
Commodore’s Log – Diana Bliss
I’m writing my article early this month because I’ll be leaving the country for Peru and Galapagos this May 16th. With that being said, the weather is warming up nicely for sailing! Hopefully our first Chatfield meeting and moonlight sail will go well. We will be able to eat and meet at the Seagulls Restaurant at Chatfield Marina for our June Meeting on the 9th and sail. We will meet at 5:30 PM for a short meeting and then sail at 6:30 PM. At this writing we are still in need of a coordinator for the sail. If you are new to the club or never coordinated before, this is an easy one to coordinate and Shane would be happy to mentor you on the procedure. Let Shane know if you would be interested in helping the club out.
At the June meeting, we will still have signups for the Big Mac trip, if it’s filled up in May, will be taking names for a waiting list. As of this writing, I have TWO SPACES LEFT. See article in this newsletter. There will be an evening sail on July 1st at Cherry Creek coordinated by Shane. He will be taking sign-ups at the June meeting. Also, we will be sailing the weekend of July 15th—17th at Dillon. Marilyn will be coordinating that trip and is taking sign-ups.
I want to give some thank-you’s to our May coordinators— Cindie S. – for the May meeting sail, and Mark G. – for the New Member sail, and to the boat owners (Cindie S, Brooke and Larry M, Marilyn A, and Shane B.) who volunteered their boats or used Why Buy’s for each of these events. Hope all their sails go well and everyone had a good time. Also, Welcome to all the new members so far this year. We still have a few day sail coordinator positions open in July, and September. Remember we couldn’t have our club function without our volunteer coordinators! So, think about stepping up to help the club, Training /mentoring and coordinators sail for free.
JUNE MEETING
Seagulls Restaurant at Chatfield Marina June 9th
5:30pm for a short meeting and 6:30pm Sail!!
Mark Graas – Vice Commodore
I have sold Woovey (West Wight Potter 19) to a wonderful couple that I hope to see join the Salty Dogs. Many, many wonderful memories. I still own “Da Di’ttle Bears” (Oday 15). I had too many trailers and something had to go.
The New Members Free Sail and WORLD-FAMOUS BURGERS event was a huge success, even though it was early! There were 15 people who participated, and the Burgers were mighty tasty! Thanks to all who participated!
Salty Dogs Membership – Ellie Watson
As of close to the end of May, the paid Salty Dog membership is 48 with 18 of the members having their own boat or a Why Buy membership. There are one or two non-members who have signed up for the New Members Sail, so hopefully we might make it to 50 now that sailing season is getting underway.
Neisha Atchley – Dry Land Coordinator

PUEBLO SAIL – FRIDAY, JUNE 3 THROUGH SUNDAY, JUNE 5
The Pueblo event is now full. We have 2 boats and have reserved two slips for both Friday and Saturday night. Weather permitting will be sailing on Saturday and Sunday. We also have Mark Johnson from Colorado Springs joining us on Saturday and Sunday with his Hobie Tandem Island sailing kayak.
Everyone participating is on their own for breakfast and lunch for both days of sailing. Friday night is the potluck dinner at the campground — bring your own meat to grill and a side dish, appetizer, or dessert to share, also BYOB. The Club will provide the paper products for dinner. For Saturday night’s dinner we’ll be at the Shamrock Brewing Company in downtown Pueblo.
Everyone attending will be receiving a packet of information via email the week of 5/30/22. Meanwhile, for more info or additional questions, please contact:

The “Big Mac” Trip will be June 23-26th, 2022
The Salty Dogs will be heading back to Lake Mac. We will be staying at Admiral’s Cove again this year. You must register for this trip as there are limited spots on the boats. We have three boats this year so far with 8 crew spots available, with only more 2 spots available. I’ll be looking for another boat so we can take more people. Your check will reserve your spot on this trip. The price of this trip is only the price to bring the boats up. Each person is responsible for getting their own lodging! The price does not include a potluck dinner on Saturday night.
The price of the trip is $160.00 for club members and $240 for guests. This is based on the current three boats signed up. If we get a fourth boat, the cost may be reduced with a refund for the difference.
Please mail your check (payable to Salty Dogs) to Diana Bliss 7069 Xenon Ct, Arvada 80004. This will reserve your spot—it’s first come first serve. You can also pay online on the website saltydog.org. I still have two spaces left on the trip!!
If you want to get reservations at Admirals Cove for a motel room, cabin, or campsite, best way is to go to their website admiralscoveresort.com . If you have trouble, call Mike, the manager at 1-402-201-4131. Mention that you are with the Club. As of this writing there is still some availability of various rooms and campsites. If you still need lodging, give me a call or email me because I have a list of other nearby places. If you have any questions after May 15th, please contact Cindie S. at newsletter@saltydog.org
